Braskem, supplier whose sustainable initiatives are good for plastic

We have some amazing partners that make up our supply chain, one of which is Brazilian company Braskem. Like Roberts Mart, Braskem has many of the same sustainable values and ethics which is one reason we work with them to supply us with ‘green’ polyethylene.

Promoting plastic circularity and driving the bio-based revolution, Braskem are committed, as are Roberts Mart, to reducing reliance on finite resources and reducing carbon emissions making a positive impact and bringing shared value to the supply chain.

Braskem is a global company, founded in 2002 and a pioneer in the production of biopolymers, plastic made of renewable raw material, on an industrial scale.  They produce a wide range of petrochemicals and thermoplastics which are used to manufacture various things that people use in their daily lives, such as food packaging.

They are a very innovative company and inspire us to continue our quest to provide customers with the most sustainable options that we can, helping our customers and our customers’ customers achieve their environmental goals.

Braskem’s green polyethylene is made from sugarcane.  The I’m GreenTM bio-based products are made from a renewable source, ethanol sugarcane and its production process captures carbon dioxide. Replacing fossil feedstock with renewable feedstock significantly contributes to reducing the overall greenhouse gas emissions of the plastics value chain and the process has not required any further investment in new plastics-converting machinery.

I’m GreenTM bio-based polyethylene is a renewable alternative to standard polyethylene and can be used in rigid and flexible applications and then can be recycled.  At Roberts Mart we use this to produce bags for our clients, such as sustainable bags for duvets, pillows and mattress protectors manufactured by John Cotton.

The I’m GreenTM  portfolio is continually being expanded with plans to include 1 million tons of thermoplastic resins and chemicals with recycled content by 2030 and include 300 thousand tons of products with recycled content by 2025.

We look forward to continuing our relationship with Braskem and the ongoing innovation that will provide new options for us and our customers in the years to come.
