The UK Plastics Pact
What is the Plastic Pact?
The UK Plastics Pact brings together businesses from across the entire plastics value chain with UK governments and NGOs to tackle plastic waste. The intention is to create a circular economy for plastics, capturing their value by keeping them in the economy and out of the natural environment.
Pact members will eliminate problematic plastics reducing the total amount of packaging on supermarket shelves, stimulate innovation and new business models and help build a stronger recycling system in the UK. Together they will ensure that plastic packaging is designed so it can be easily recycled and made into new products and packaging and, with the support of governments, ensure consistent UK recycling is met.
There are four targets of the Plastic Pact for 2025:
- Eliminate problematic or unnecessary single-use packaging through redesign, innovation or alternative (reuse) delivery model.
- 100% of plastics packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable.
- 70% of plastics packaging effectively recycled or composted.
- 30% average recycled content across all plastic packaging.

Can we reduce the amount of plastic we use or make our products more recyclable?
Light weighting and size reduction have been two options commonly used in the past to reduce cost but are now as equally important to reduce the overall potential effect on the environment. We can help you with both. We also have a comprehensive procedure we are working on in line with the CEFLEX guidelines which is a tool intended to provide advice and support to those designing flexible packaging to be circular.
