Roberts Mart, the Leeds-based packaging printer
has installed what it believes to be the longest
flexo press in the UK in a bid to win more food
and drink packaging work.
It has also secured the British Retail Consortium/Institute
of Packaging accreditation, which ensures the factory
meets the standards set out in the 1990 Food Safety
Act.
The firm hopes that the 10-colour Fischer &
Krecke 26S, which cost £2.1m as part of an
£8.7m investment, will help it to break into
new markets including beverage wraps and agricultural
sacks.
As well as the high number of units, it features
a maximum repeat of 1,300mm, which it claims will
give it a big advantage over other UK firms, whose
presses typically have a maximum cut-off of 800mm.
